The language of the piece is written in starbrary quartz star markings and sacred record keepers, geometric key portals and a cacophony of rare inclusions.

Lighting struck quartz is an extrodinary phenomenon, said to be its own dialect of starbrary quartz.

The Serra de Espinhaço mountains are a mystical place where lighting rains down from the sky, orographic storms creating clouds with an elevated electrical charge.

The lightning both heats the quartz and transfers a remarkable amount of energy, amplifying the stone’s piezoelectric capacity to receive, store and transmit information.

This process speaks to the nature, the spirit of the stone in ways we’re still just beginning to understand.

Through the looking glass, the strike mark stands distinctly against the water clear quartz (photo #2).

I most often experience lightning quartz through the path the electrical charge leaves in its wake. Ever so often, the lightning completely transforms the language of these clandestine crystal beings.

This lightning strike transformed the entire nature of the piece, a garden of terminations growing in the wake of the jolt. The spirit of the piece speaks to our own capacity to heal.

To alchemize wounds into extraordinary new expressions of self.

So many singular occurrences were strung together for this large, rare crystal being to manifest in this form, in this moment. It felt impossible to translate the magic of the piece in a handful of photos.

Even now, I know my words will also fall short.

Record keeper glyphs manifest on the body and raised record keepers exist on a small, imprinted termination on the right side of this large crystal specimen.

When light and angle alchemize, coexist in harmonic resonance, they reveal an iridescent rainbow hematite sheen which covers the entirety of the piece.

The Serra de Espinhaço mountains in Minas Gerais are known for orographic thunderstorms which create an abundance of lightning which reaches temperatures of “30,000°C in nanoseconds,” five times hotter than the surface of the sun.

The lightning strikes the mountain tops, penetrating the rocks which house these growing Quartz crystals, exposing these unique, rare stones to a remarkable amount of energy in a very short period of time.

Because of the piezoelectric nature of Quartz, the electricity generated causes the Quartz to rapidly expand or contract, depending on whether the strike is negatively or positively charged.
